First, stop eating foods made with high fructose corn syrup. What this means is you can burn fat faster if you get your heart pumping for a few minutes, then slow down for a few minutes, then increase your heart rate again and so on rather than just keep your heart rate high for the whole time. An easy example would be to start out walking for a few blocks, then jog for about 8 minutes (or however long you can), then slow down to a fast walk again, then run again. Keep repeating until you’ve got a good 20-30 minutes in.
Start doing strength training exercises. Studies show that building the muscle greatly increases metabolism while it burns the fat. More muscle means a higher, on-going metabolism rate. This basically means that even while at rest your body is burning fat when you have more muscle mass. How cool is that? An added bonus to strength training is it also builds stronger bones. You can use hand held weights to strengthen muscles in your arms but you can easily workout without weights. Here are some quick strength training exercises without weights: For the upper body and arms do push-ups. You can do push-ups off the wall, counter top or on the floor from your knees. Once you’re arms are strong enough you can try doing the standard push-up from your toes.
Another good exercise for your legs and knees are wall squats. Standing, put your back against a wall. Take a step out in front of you with one foot then the other, keeping your back and head pressed against the wall. Slide down the wall with your back, bending your knees with your arms raised. Make sure your knees are over your ankles like in a sitting position. Hold for 30-60 seconds and repeat.
