Metabolism is the process of how our body breaks down the food we eat and harvest the energy to be used by each cell in our whole system. This chemical reaction greatly affects the weight of a person, and directly affects how much weight a person is going to lose, which makes it very important for people who want to know how to lose weight effectively.
Even when you are at rest or asleep your body is breaking down calories and this is measured by Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR). You may wonder how it happens. Well even though you’re not doing anything at all or merely having a good night sleep you’re still using energy. Your heart, lungs and brain will not do its job without energy. Every vital organs needs fuel to work to make it sure that you will still wake up the next day, isn’t it amazing?
But the BMR decreases as you grow older. Meaning it will be hard for your body to burn down those excess calories and losing weight is impossible. That is one of the reasons why old people are usually fat even though they still consume the same amount of food when they we’re younger.
Exercising greatly affects our metabolism. When you are working out your body temperature is high, a sign that your body is now burning down calories. And even after the work-out when you’re simply inhaling and exhaling gases, body fat are being broken down in minimal amount.
Stress and lack of sleep also affects our body’s ability to break down calories. The latter has been shown to affect your food cravings. A hormone called cortisol which regulates appetite, are produced in large amount when sleep decreases, that is why you always feel hungry even though you’re already full. Aside from that it also causes the levels of growth hormone production to slow down. Now you know why your mom wants you sleep early or take a nap during your childhood years.
Remember, that the best way to lose weight, is by avoiding stress, doing enough exercise, and eating a healthy diet, as well as defecate once or twice a day, so as to free the body of unneeded debris.
